Although Chicken Pot Pie is a classic dish loved by most American families, few families are carrying on the tradition of making their own chicken pot pie, instead opting to buy ready in stores. I am here to say that while I totally get it, as a busy Mom of four time is pretty limited, but with a a little bit of planning and this easy how-to recipe tutorial, you can make you own chicken pot pie next time!
I never use the bottom crust since I follow a very low sodium diet. I will either use the puff pastry crust or put whatever biscuit/roll dough on top. Makes it so easy and it's just as good! Jeg håber det hjælper. There are some great ideas in all these reviews.
A friend told me about this recipe, so I decided to try it for our family of 5. Everyone loved it! Three kids aged 3, 5, and 7 all ate and enjoyed this one dish dinner. I love the homemade filling and pie crust topping. I don't have a skillet, so made in a 9 x 13 glass pan. Everything seemed to cook fine and was easy to store for leftovers. I meant to prepare ahead of time, but didn't' have time the day I made it. But, I like that this in an option! I bought an already prepared roasted chicken from the grocery store deli, but next time I'll probably just prepare my own chicken breasts as it's probably cheaper and easier than getting all that chicken pulled off the bones! Overall, this was a delicious recipe that I will make again and again!
I followed the recipe, but the bottom crust didn't brown or cook properly, so it tasted like dough. I used a well-seasoned iron skillet. I think Southern Living's test kitchen should take another look at this recipe. Maybe there was a mistake?
Fabelagtig! I have to leave the mushrooms out due to allergies but I don't miss them. I use a regular pie crust on the bottom, but for the top I like to use Crescent roll dough for a flaky-buttery taste! This is hands down the best pot-pie you'll make at home!
This is a perfect warm casserole for fall and winter, but admittedly, I adore this recipe year round. Ive been known to make this instead of my Instant Pot chicken noodle soup when I am feeling unwell. The crust soaked in the creamy chicken base just satisfies me when I am both hungry, and not feeling great.
Another reason why I love this recipe is that it is one that is a meal in itself. I dont have to worry about making side dishes or a bread for this meal. A bowl of it is all I need to serve for a complete balanced meal.
What vegetables are best for chicken pot pie
Traditionally, diced potatoes, carrots, celery, and green peas have been what I see most often in a chicken pot pie casserole. That doesnt mean you cant enjoy tons of other vegetables in a chicken pot pie.
Can i use a store bought pie crust
One easy way to lessen your preparation time for this casserole is to use a ready-made pie crust. Of course, homemade is my favorite for any recipe, but when you are in a hurry or feel pressed for time, pie crust can be subbed with one from the store.
Step 2: Next, you will need to preheat your oven, and begin searing your chicken for use in the filling. Once the chicken is seared, you will add it and the vegetables to the oven, as directed to brown.
Instead of using traditional pie crust, Morgans recipe calls for a crispy puff pastry top while the rest of the filling remains crust-free which cuts down on prep time and makes cleanup easier. Better yet, the pot pie can be made in less than an hour with fewer than 10 ingredients.
For those times, and just for simple convenience without sacrificing taste this recipe is the answer. Easy Skillet Chicken Pot Pie take few store-bought ingredients made in one dish. This means you can have this comfort food, like you do with classic Turkey Pot Pie, with little excuses getting in the way.
