Prime Rib is a very delicious and tender cut of beef that is often saved for special occasions. Because of this, many people think it is difficult to prepare. In reality, Prime Rib is quite easy to make!

Prime Rib is a cut of beef that comes from the Rib primal. It is one of 9 primal cuts! This cut of beef contains anywhere from 2-7 ribs. The ribs are accompanied by a large cut of meat which makes up the Standing Rib Roast.

What size prime rib roast should i buy

Instructions:1. Low and slow is obviously the way to go. Set your smoker or oven to 225F! Rasheed likes to run his smoker/oven hotter than the recipe calls for so that when he opens/closes the appliance, he doesnt lose too much heat or has to fight to get the temperature back up. Wanna try this out? Set your appliance to 250F, but once the meat is settled in the oven/smoker, bring the temperature down to a steady 225F for the remainder of the cook.  

7. Generously rub the butter mix ALL OVER the prime rib. Kind of like how you would cover up with sunscreen on a hot summer day. Make sure youve got a nice, even coat all over the meat! Key word: even. our prime rib should be unrecognizable now cause its so covered!

8. Insert the MEATER Plus probe into the center of the thickest part of the prime rib. Then set up the cook on the app with a target internal temperature of 135F for a perfect medium rare.  Then put it in your oven/smoker! Make sure you bring down your appliance to 225F if you had originally set it a bit higher. Dont want to dry out that buttered beauty.

9. You see how big that prime rib is? Go take a nap, or workout, or make some dranks cause this will take a few hours. Baste the prime rib every 30 minutes with butter to make sure we get the juiciest prime rib everrr! The app will alert you when the meat is ready to remove from heat!

10. Hopefully the MEATER alert didnt scare you! Sometimes we do so many other things while we wait for MEATER to alert us, that we forgot we were cooking at all! Remove your prime rib from the appliance and let it rest till MEATER tells you its absolutely done!

Technically, this is probably a grilled prime rib. For this roast we ran at 350from start to finish. That isnt classically considered smoking. Then again, some people say that pellet grills arent really smoking either, sooooo take all of these definitions with a grain of salt.

There was plenty of wood-fired flavor in this roast even with the relatively high cook temp, but if you want to really smoke it up you can also start this at 200-225 for the first hour or so before turning it op. Follow the rest of the instructions as written.

Once the thermometer hits an internal temperature of 120F, remove the roast from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board. Cover it with aluminum foil and let it rest for 20 minutes. The roast will continue to cook as the juices inside settle, raising the internal temperature to 130F for a perfect medium-rare prime rib. Slice and serve with gravy.

How long to cook prime rib roast?

It usually takes about 16-18 minutes per pound of prime rib roast to cook so that the internal temperature is at least 120F. This small prime rib roast weighs about 5 pounds so it needs to stay in the oven for about an hour and a half. On the other hand, for a large cut of about 8 pounds you have to wait two hours and a half

First, roast the prime rib roast at 350F for about 15 minutes, then lower the oven temperature to 325F. You can remove the roast when the meat thermometer reaches your favorite internal temperature.
